Misty was written by the jazz pianist
Erroll Garner as an instrumental piece in 1954, and later adopted lyrics written by
Johnny Burke. Notable vocal cover versions of it include the ones by
Johnny Mathis,
Ella Fitzgerald,
Sarah Vaughan,
Billy Eckstine and
Frank Sinatra.

This is how the melody begins. The first three notes makes a very strong impression. There is also a nice, leap occuring when you sing "help-less".

And here's how the chorus section begins. The pick-up notes (notes in the left bar) are all triplets, predicting some sort of dramatic changs in the next bar, and the next bar introduces a series of notes with an accidental, which does create a significant sense of change.
(Lyrics excerpt)
Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud
I can't understand I get misty just holding your hands
Walk my way and a thousand violins begins to play
Or it might be the sound of your hello
That music I hear, I get misty the moment you're near
