Killing Me Softly With His Song was written by
Charles Fox (music) and
Norman Gimbel (lyrics) in 1971. It was developed from a poem written by
Lori Lieberman after
she saw
Don McLean play live. The song was included in Lieberman's debut album, and later covered by
Roberta Flack to top the U.S. pop chart.

This is the melody at
the beginning. It uses a nicely
syncopated rhythmic figure which feels somewhat Latin.
(Lyrics)
I heard he sang a good song
I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him and listen for a while
And there he was, this young boy
A stranger to my eyes
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Rhymes:
