2009.07.02 - San Francisco (part 7)

June 28, 2009 Sun (continued)

Arrived at Shinyurigaoka at 20:10. I sort of wanted to take a cab home or eat in a restaurant, in pursuit of comfort, but managed not to do either, thus saving bucks. Took a train to Kurihira and walked back home. The baggage was a burden when climbing up the 100m-high stairs on the way, but came home safe and sound. Did laundry. Organized the closet because I brought back lots of cloths.

Summary

This trip consisted of three and a half days in San Francisco (from Wed. morning to Sat. noon) and required five days in total (June 24 Wed. - June 28 Sun.).

Costs: (using $1=¥96 conversion)
$65 (¥6,240) - Transportation within Japan
$802.40 (¥77,030) - Air transportation
$238 (¥22,848) - Hotels
$1,059.61 (¥101,722) - Debit expenses (shopping, etc.)
$81.45 (¥7,819) - Cash expenses (eating, buses, etc.)

Total: $2,258.46 (¥216,812)

There were less passengers in the airplane on both ways than the full capacity. On the Narita-departing flight, my next seat was vacant and I had better comfort than I normally would. The inspection and the customs in both SFO and Narita took less time too. With the airplane and hotel costs combined it worked out about $500 cheaper than the last year. The decreased oil surcharge contributed to that as well.

The weather in California while I stayed there was, predictably, marvelous. I found American people open and friendly, and easy to talk to, as usual. I thought there were perhaps more homeless people in San Francisco than the last year, and if that's true it's probably due to the current economy with high unemployment rate still pointing up.

The presence of large Chinese population in SF makes an East-Asian visitor feel at home, especially when eating is concerned. Overall, I had a pretty pleasant time staying in San Francisco. I think I'll visit there in the not-so-distant future.
