2008.06.09 (Mon) - San Francisco, Day 2, Pt.2

Since I brought my money in traveler's checks for the sake of safety, it takes time to sign each one of them. There actually exist checks in $500 and $1,000, but I didn't know that before my departure and I changed the whole amount into $100 checks. So there're plenty of them.

10:00 - My fingers get tired of signing, and I decide to pause the task and get back to hotel to take a rest. Speaking of rest, I haven't slept much since departure. Perhaps about 6 hours in these 2 days.

11:00 - Again to the bank. Finish the process in about an hour. Although it took some time, it was overall very easy to open an account at the bank, with its stance very flexible. I'm told to come back next day to confirm the amount of deposit. No problem.

12:30 - Walk to Fisherman's Wharf. People probably won't walk this distance to get there, but it's part of fun for me. Get a crab boiled at a stand, sit nearby and eat it. $13.00 for a whole crab. With a whole lemon cut in pieces. Very tasty.

Walk into the Burns and Noble and look around for a paper-back. I'm with this idea of buying a novel by an American author, published by an American publisher, so I go back and forth between Hemingway and Fitzgerald. But instead, I buy a copy of Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown because it was cheap.

13:00 - An attempt to walk again to Chinatown. But the road starts becoming upward and my will starts declining, so I decide to take a bus. Waiting, I talk a little with an Indian dude who told me which bus to take.

He came to Silicon Valley from India to work as a software engineer in an IT company. When I tell him that I've just created a bank account, he asks what percentage I got for interest rate. As I tell him, he says "A friend of mine opened an account with a rate a lot higher than that. Are you sure you gathered enough information as for available types of accounts?" That makes me a little worried. I think I did enough research beforehand.. (Next)
