2008.06.09 (Mon) - San Francisco, Day 2, Pt.1
6:00 - Sleep for about 3 hours after coming back from the club. Or it's more
like, wait in bed for the earliest time that the restaurants open.
Walk about 2 blocks to Saigon Sandwich. It was introduced in the Time Out
guidebook and I was expecting good food, but it wasn't that good.
Terrible coffee. Unbelievably, they give me a cup of instant-coffee and
charge $2.70. Together with the sandwich it was $5.40. I decide not to
rely on guidebooks from now on.
8:30 -
The time being closer to the office hours for banks, I start heading to
Bank of America in order to open an account, which is the main purpose of
this trip.
Stop at Starbucks on the way and see the San Francisco Chronicle. There's
an interesting article about gay/lesbian couples having wedding ceremonies
on the 16th, legally. So I read it.
The city of San Francisco, 4 years ago, permitted thousands of gay/lesbian
couples to marry, against the decisions by the court. Since then those
couples have been in an ambiguous position where they are not acknowledged
by the court but acknowledged by the city.
But recently, the Supreme Court of California ruled that same-sex
marriage is legal. So the city is now re-offering those couples a legal
wedding at the city hall. Very progressive and interesting.
9:00 -
Walk into Bank of America, as soon as it opens. Upon saying that I want to
create a CD (Certificate of Deposit) account, I'm introduced into a personal banker's office.
Relaxed conversation. I'm having the coffee I bought at the Starbucks.
Over here it seems that it's widely allowed to carry a cup of coffee and
walk into shops or offices.
