This is a Drum n' Bass, I mean Drum-n'-Bass-influenced, track. It's been a while since I last worked on the style, and it's refreshing for me to have this particular sound with me once again.
Drum n' Bass, or "Jungle" which is an older name for the style, really got me interested in the mid '90s. I lived in London from 1995 to 1996, and I had chances to see those Jungle pioneers in action at parties and raves - people like Goldie, Grooverider, Fabio, Kemistry, Storm, Doc Scot, LTJ Bukem, Brian G, and the list goes on and on. I couldn't see Roni Size, I guess basically because he was based in Bristol. Same goes for Krust.
I don't mean to finish without mentioning 4 Hero, either. Even though I didn't get to see them live, I still was heavily influenced by them through their recordings.
What's so fascinating about Drum n' Bass style is the use of drumbeats sampled off an old record. They don't just sample it and loop it as it is, but they chop them up into pieces and modify the rhythm pattern vigorously, and speed it up. As a result you have a totally new, mutated beats which somehow, and metaphorically, imply the technological circumstances that we live in today.
