"Beautiful Envy"

Beautiful Envy is a song I wrote in 2008. I went to a club party a friend of mine was organizing, and I felt so good at the party that I started writing lyrics on my cell phone. And those lyrics became the foundation of this song.Many sounds in this tune come from EDIROL HQ-OR Orchestral. I wanted to create somewhat classical feel, so I chose to use sounds such as flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, timpani, and so on.
This is the mix page in Cubase. You see the "Sections" raw at the top. The song structure goes i1 (intro) - A (verse) - B (chorus) - i2 (short break) - A, and so on. The i3 is when the music gets dark with flute and bass drum. And i5 is the flute-solo section.
This is an extract from the chord changes of the song. The top line is the chord changes for Verse sections, and the bottom is the changes for Chorus sections. As you can see, a modulation occurs when the song enters the Chorus (where rap turns into singing).
